Birth Classes during Covid-19

Updated: Aug 23, 2020

Childbirth education classes are so important for birthing parents and their partners. It provides the necessary information so that you know what to expect in childbirth and advocate for yourselves. Before Covid-19 hospitals offered in person classes for childbirth education and newborn care, but right now that is not possible. Those classes tended to have a lot of information in regards to individual hospital practices and policy and depending on the hospital could seemed biased.

I want to talk about two programs that I really like, I find them to be non-biased and recommend to many of my clients.

KOPA Birth is an online birth education resource that focuses on natural childbirth in a hospital setting. The creator of the Kopa Birth method is a nurse and has been doing childbirth education for over thirteen years. I like this course because it truly is unbiased and has evidence based information. Even though its focus is on natural childbirth in a hospital setting, it also has information on all interventions that can come up in childbirth and what to expect if you get an epidural. They also have a blog and a Facebook community where you can stay informed. You can try out the first class at no cost, it gives a great idea on what you could expect to get from the class. I personally used this program on my last two births and it made a world of difference. You may even see one of my births, we filmed it for the course. If you want to learn more Click Here.

Hypnobirthing taught by Rebecca Duer of Mindful Family Wellness is the other course that I would recommend. This is taught in person or virtually by Rebecca. "The HypnoBirthing® Childbirth method is as much a philosophy of birth as it is a technique for achieving a satisfying, relaxing, and stress-free method of birthing.  HypnoBirthing® teaches you, along with your birthing companion, the art and joy of experiencing birth in a more comfortable manner.  You will learn to call upon your body’s own natural relaxant and thus lessen or eliminate discomfort and the need for medication.  When a pregnant person is properly prepared for childbirth and when mind and body are in harmony, nature is free to function in the same well-designed manner that it does with all other creatures." Each method is unique, but effective, it just depends what style fits you best. When it comes to most things in childbirth, trust your gut. If either of these feel like a god fit look into them further. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.
